About the Institution
New York’s first voluntary hospital since 1896 called Nassau hospital was renamed as Winthrop University Hospital in 1980.
It is a teaching hospital for Suny Stony Brook & is also a member of New York Presbyterian hospital system. Hospital is renowned for its patient care and employee dedication.It provides inpatients & out patients services and has renowned emergency department, fast-track unit, chest pain rule-out unit, pediatric emergency unit and diagnostic imaging center.

Here is one of the goals of WUH Internal Medicine program "One of the central goals of the program is to create an atmosphere where various cultural and ethnic differences among patients, staff, and house staff are not only recognized, but respected, understood and embraced. The diversity of the peoples with which residents will interact is an unparalleled opportunity for learning." WUH accepts foreign medical graduates and sponsors J1 visa. Among the 37 seats in 2010 atleast 15% (or more) of the residents are FMGs/IMGs.
