An institution started with a small group of physicians who aspired to improve medical practice in North Texas. It was established in 1900 as University Of Dallas Medical Department with only 81 students. After three years they they renamed as Baylor University of Medicine with the alliance of Baylor University in Waco. It is the only private medical school in southwest region of United States which is prevailing lowest tuition. BCM offers “Medical Scientist Training Program” among 45 medical institutions in that region. It had established world’s largest centers for the care& treatment of HIV-infected children & families. To honor BCM’s research on Elephant Herpes virus ,a male elephant calf born at Houston zoo was named Baylor.
