About the Institution

The Birmingham metropolitan area grew rapidly in 1936, and needed an educational institution.To overcome this need, University of Alabama created Birmingham Extension center in an old house in downtown Birmingham .Later, they shifted from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham. This was later renamed as University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), which is a public and autonomous institution.UAB is the only one of 108 universities with very high level research rating in the nation & it has the state’s largest employer, with more than 18,000 faculty & 53,000 staff jobs in the university as well as health system.

It provides a good environment for medical training conducted by best minds in UAB, and is highly devoted towards outstanding clinical service, best education &innovative research.

International Medical Graduates

This program has a long history of accepting international medical graduates (FMG,IMG). University will sponsor H1-B and J-1 visa and students must behold ECFMG certificate. 18 % of the current group of residents in Internal Medicine program are foreign medical graduate.

2011 USNWR ranking: 79th in National university category & 34th in among public schools category.UAB had got the highest ranking in ALABAMA. It has enrolled 18,047 students which was considered as a record.
